Every story is different, and every author is unique. No two should be treated the same. That’s why I take a unique approach to editing.
Let’s say you have a Bachelor’s in English, have written and proofread your own novel, and are just looking for someone to do a quick edit in case you missed some typos. In that case, my job as your copy-editor wouldn’t be that time-consuming, and your fee would be lowered to meet the workload.
On the other hand, let’s say you’ve written a novel in English, but it isn’t your first language. You didn’t let that stop you, but the amount of work is a little bit more than it would be otherwise. In this case, the price might be a little higher (yet still affordable!)
Editors charge based on many different things. Some charge per words, others per hour. Some charge a flat rate based on the size of the book, others by the amount of time before their deadline. Editing rates are never the same for every client, but in my experience I have found that word count and time frame are all so unique that it is hard to project an estimate that is fair for both the editor and the client.
That is why I’ve taken a new approach, by treating every author and project with the unique attention that they deserve. I’ve been on both sides of the coin – author and editor – so I know how works both ways. I couldn’t afford an editor when I first published my books, so I was forced to publish them with only my own (at the time) weak editing skills, hoping nobody would notice.
And I don’t want you to have to do the same.
As a freelance editor, I will work with you to get your book to the place it needs to be. A good story is necessary, but editing is the bridge between an unfinished manuscript and a polished work of art. You’ve done the hard part – and I want to help you get to that next level.
